This algebra and functions lesson focuses on selecting operational symbols that make an expression true. The lesson includes research-based strategies and questions that help prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students identify the largest number in the number sentence. If the larger number is the answer they use addition and multiplication, and if the larger number is in the expression they use subtraction and division. Finally, students write the expression with both operations and solve each. In addition to the lesson, there are four pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after current adaptive testing items.
