Describe Plane Objects

TEKS Math: 1.6.D

(D) Identify two-dimensional shapes, including circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares, as special rectangles, rhombuses, and hexagons and describe their attributes using formal geometric language

CCSS Math: 1.G.1

1.G.1 Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.

This measurement and geometry lesson focuses on describing plane objects. The lesson includes research-based strategies and questions that help prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students read the name of the plane object aloud. Then, they count the number of sides and vertices and describe the plane object aloud. In addition to the lesson, there are four pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after current adaptive testing items.
