Isolate Initial Sounds

CCSS ELA: RF.K.2.D

RF.K.2.D Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words. (This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.)

TEKS ELA: K(2)(A)(ii)

K(2)(A)(ii) Demonstrate phonological awareness by recognizing spoken alliteration or groups of words that begin with the same spoken onset or initial sound.

This phonics lesson involves isolating the following sounds: /s/, /n/, /m/, /p/, /t/, /l/, /r/, /k/, /d/, /g/, /h/, /j/, /b/, /f/, /v/, /w/, /y/, /z/, /sh/, /ch/. This does not include CVCs ending with /1/, /r/, or /x/. In addition to the lesson, there are multiple pages of independent practice and review with questions modeled after the assessment items. Extra resources are provided.
