Extend Patterns

TEKS Math: 1.6.B

(B) Distinguish between attributes that define a two-dimensional or three-dimensional figure and attributes that do not define the shape

AU Math: ACMNA018

(Y1) Investigate and describe number patterns formed by skip-counting and patterns with objects (ACMNA018)

CCSS Math: 1.G.1

1.G.1 Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.

This statistics, data analysis, and probability lesson focuses on extending patterns. The lesson includes research-based strategies and questions that help prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students point to each shape in a pattern and say the name of its shape, color and the number of shapes. Then, they select the next shape in the pattern. In addition to the lesson, there are four pages of Independent Practice and review as well as shape flashcards.
