Divide Money Amounts

(C) Solve problems that deal with measurements of length, intervals of time, liquid volumes, mass, and money using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division as appropriate.

CCSS Math: 4.NBT.6

4.NBT.6 Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

This number sense lesson focuses on dividing money amounts. The lesson includes research-based strategies and questions that help prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students identify the quotient of a money amount by using long division and placing the decimal correctly in the quotient. Then, they read the problem and quotient aloud. In addition to the lesson, there are eight pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after current adaptive testing items.
