This literary response and analysis lesson focuses on using literary devices (such as metaphor, symbolism, dialect, and irony) to interpret an author's work. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students read the passage and then reread the underlined literary device. Then, they use the literary device to interpret the author's meaning by answering two questions. In addition to the lesson, there are five pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after current adaptive testing items.
