Subtract Polynomials

CCSS Math: HSA.APR.1

HSA.APR.1 Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.

This Algebra 1 lesson teaches students how to subtract polynomials. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. Students will write the first polynomial, and then rewrite the second with opposite signs. Then, they will align the like terms of the second under the first and remove the parentheses. Finally, they will combine like terms and perform the operations. In addition to the lesson, there is one page of Independent Practice and three pages of periodic review.
