This life science lesson focuses on explaining why mutations affect the structure and function of the organism. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students read a passage and complete a graphic organizer to identify the effect of a mutation(s). Then, they identify the effects that the environment has on the organism (was the mutation harmful, beneficial, or neutral). Finally, students justify their answers. In addition to the lesson, there are three pages for Independent Practice and review modeled after current adaptive testing items.
