Describe Atoms and Molecules Using Chemical Formulas
- Grade:
- High School
- Subject:
- Science
This physical science lesson focuses on describing atoms and molecules using chemical formulas. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students first determine whether the example is a molecule or single atom, and name the atoms. Then, they determine the number of each atom (how many of each molecule, and how many of each atom is in each molecule, if necessary). Finally, students interpret the type and number of atoms in each example. In addition to the lesson, there are two pages for Independent Practice and review modeled after current adaptive testing items.
Draw Lewis Dot Structures
- Grade:
- High School
- Subject:
- Science
This chemistry lesson focuses on drawing Lewis dot structures. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students find the number of valence electrons in an element. Then, they write down the element symbol and draw the Lewis dot structure by placing the dots clockwise around the element symbol. Finally, they write down the number of unpaired valence electrons available for bonding. In addition to the lesson, there are five pages of Independent Practice and review modeled after current adaptive testing items.
