Multiply Decimals to Compute a Percent
- Grade:
- 5
- Subject:
- Math
This number sense lesson focuses on computing a percent of a whole number. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students read the problem and identify the percent. Then, they compute the percent of the whole number by finding the decimal form of the percent and multiplying the whole number by the decimal form. Finally, they interpret the percent of the whole number. In addition to the lesson, there are five pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after current adaptive testing items.
Compute Unit Rates with Fractions
- Grade:
- 7
- Subject:
- Math
This ratios and proportional relationships lesson covers how to compute unit rates (complex fraction ratios). The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students create an equivalent ratio table using given units and quantities. They identify the unit quantity, determine the multiplicative inverse which produces one, and then apply the multiplicative inverse to the other quantity. Finally, they interpret the unit rate.
Use Real Number Properties to Perform Computational Procedures
- Grade:
- High School
- Subject:
- Math
This Algebra 1 lesson teaches students how to use the properties of real numbers to perform computational procedures. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. Students will read partial equations and complete them by determining, writing, and justifying the real number property that applies (Commutative, Associative, or Distributive). Then, they will perform the operations to prove the results do not change. In addition to the lesson, there is one page of Independent Practice and three pages of periodic review.
