Produce Complete Sentences (Writing)
This Language lesson requires students to produce simple sentences using subjects and intransitive verbs. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments.

Produce Simple Sentences
L.2.1 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
L.2.1.FL.2.1.F Produce, expand, and rearrange complete simple and compound sentences (e.g., The boy watched the movie; The little boy watched the movie; The action movie was watched by the little boy).
This grammar lesson covers the production of simple sentences. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students will learn how to identify the subject and verb as well as phrases that tell where and how. They will create and write new sentences that match pictures and words from a word bank.

Expand Simple Sentences

Use Subordinating Conjunctions

In this lesson, students will practice using subordinating conjunctions in sentences and paragraphs. It will be helpful if students are already familiar with complete simple and compound sentences prior to this lesson.

Use Coordinating Conjunctions
This language lesson covers coordinating conjunctions. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students will practice using conjunctions to join words based on the relationship between words. It will be helpful if students are already familiar with complete simple and compound sentences prior to this lesson.

Identify Types of Simple Sentences

In this lesson, students label subject and verbs in sentences and identify the type of simple sentence (SV, SSV, SVV, SSVV). In addition to the lesson, there are four pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after current adaptive testing items.

Punctuate Compound Sentences Correctly
This writing conventions lesson focuses on correctly punctuating compound sentences. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students read sentences, identify the relationship of the clauses, if any, then they insert the proper comma. In addition to the lesson, there are four pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after current adaptive testing items.

Combine Sentences with Appositives
This writing conventions lesson focuses on combining sentences with appositives. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students identify the noun in the first sentence and the noun phrase in the second. Then students are asked to combine the sentences with appositives. Use Effective Coordination to Write Compound Sentences
This writing conventions lesson focuses on using effective coordination to write a compound sentence. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students identify the relationship between two sentences. Then, they determine which coordinating conjunction to use to create a compound sentence. In addition to the lesson, there are six pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after current adaptive testing items.

In this lesson, students will learn to identify the different types of verbals as well as their part of speech.
