Categorize Quadrilaterals

TEKS Math: 3.6.B

(B) Use attributes to recognize rhombuses, parallelograms, trapezoids, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories

AU Math: ACMMG042

(Y2) Describe and draw two-dimensional shapes, with and without digital technologies (ACMMG042)

CCSS Math: 3.G.1

3.G.1 Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.

This geometry lesson covers the recognition of quadrilateral shapes. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for assessments. In this lesson, students will learn the differences between a rectangle, rhombus, and square, and will categorize shapes as one of the three types of quadrilaterals or not a quadrilateral.
